Only one city per country is eligible to host a Rolex FEI World Cup event, the most important indoor show jumping event in the year.
The nine editions held so far in Vigo were a great success in terms of organization, participation and public. In 2002, Franke Sloothaak (German) and Michael Whitaker (British) won the World Cup Competition and the ‘Ciudad de Vigo’ Trophy competitions respectively.
One year later in 2003 the Swiss Markus Fuchs, was the winner of the World Cup Competition and Franke Sloothaak won the ‘Ciudad de Vigo’ Trophy.
In 2004, the champion was a female rider, the French Eugenie Angot, who won the World Cup Competition whilst the German Nº 1 Ludger Beerbaum won the ‘Ciudad de Vigo’ Trophy.
In 2005 another female rider joined the list of winners in Vigo, a very young Dane, Tina Lund, won the World Cup and the Swiss Markus Fuchs the ‘Ciudad de Vigo’ Trophy.
In the 2006 edition the Austrian Thomas Frühmann won the World Cup Competition and the German Lars Nieberg the ‘Ciudad de Vigo’ Trophy.
In 2007, the World Cup Competition was for a young Swiss rider, Steve Guerdat, while the ‘Ciudad de Vigo’ Trophy went to a brilliant German rider Marco Kutscher.
2008 was the year for the Austrian Thomas Frühmann, who came first in both the World Cup Competition and the ‘Ciudad de Vigo’ Trophy.
In 2009, Marco Kutscher was once again a winner, coming first in the World Cup Competition, while the British Tim Stockdale saw his name added to the list of winners of ‘Ciudad de Vigo’ Trophy.
Last year, the World Cup Competition was for the Australian Edwina Alexander, while ‘Ciudad de Vigo’ Trophy was for the German Philipp Weishaupt.
Apart from the sports competition there will also be a number of shows to make it more interesting for the public. Pony games as well as the exciting ponies Grand National will be a good entertainment for the whole family, we will also have the spectacular Lorenzo’s show, the French entertainer will show for the first time in Vigo his new show with 12 horses set free.
Three equestrian days from 11th to 13th of February to enjoy with the best riders and horses of the world in Vigo Exhibition Center in the 10th Anniversary of the World Cup in Vigo.
Rolex FEI World Cup Jumping
The Spanish event of the Rolex FEI World Cup Jumping will be held in Vigo, next 11, 12 and 13 February, for the tenth year in a row.
